No. Android devices do not have built-in support for hearing devices. Therefore you need the Nucleus Smart App on your Android device if you wish to use it to control your Nucleus 7 and/or Kanso 2 Sound Processor.

To control your Nucleus 7 or Kanso 2 Sound Processor with the Nucleus Smart App, you will need to download the Nucleus Smart App from the Google Play store and log in with your Cochlear Account. If you do not have a Cochlear Account, you can create an account once you have downloaded the app by tapping 'Create new account' and following the on-screen instructions.

You can pair your Nucleus 7 or Kanso 2 Sound Processor with up to five compatible Android devices and have the Nucleus Smart App installed on all of them.
However, you can only connect one compatible Android device to your sound processor(s) at a time.

Yes. If you pair your compatible Android device with your child's Nucleus 7 or Kanso 2 Sound Processor, you can control and monitor their device with the Hearing Tracker. This allows you to see battery status, adjust volume and change program at the touch of your fingertips.

If you are unable to adjust your Nucleus 7 or Kanso 2 Sound Processor(s) using the Nucleus Smart App, your compatible Android device may not have been paired properly with your processor.

To learn more about the pairing process, watch our pairing animation. If you have successfully completed the pairing process, ensure that your device is within the recommended range, and that there is nothing causing excessive interference. If the problem persists, contact Cochlear or your hearing health professional.

To unpair a sound processor – if for example you want to use a backup pair of sound processors– open the App's menu. Tap 'Settings', 'Processor Settings', 'Unpair your processors' and when the pop-up box appears tap 'Yes'. If streaming is enabled for your processors, a prompt to disable streaming will display. Tap 'Yes' and follow the prompts to forget your processors, then tap the back button to return to the Nucleus Smart App.

Audio Streaming for Hearing Aids (ASHA) protocol is delivered through the operating system of Android and not the Nucleus Smart App. To stream music and phone calls you can use a compatible Android phone that is compatible with Android's latest Operating System.

For a list of compatible Android devices that offer direct audio streaming visit www.cochlear.com/compatibility.

If you don't have a compatible Android phone, you can enjoy streaming phone calls and music wirelessly to your Nucleus 7 or Kanso 2 Sound Processor with the Cochlear Wireless Phone Clip.

To learn how to enable streaming from a compatible Android device, watch our Android streaming animation.

If you share your mobile device with someone else who also wants to use it for streaming, you'll need to 'forget your processors' before they're able to pair theirs. You'll need to do this every time someone else wants to pair their processor to your phone.

In the top right of the Nucleus Smart App home screen, you will see a battery icon. This will indicate how full your sound processor battery is. Tap the battery icon to see the 'Status' screen which shows more detailed view of the sound processor battery level. This screen also illustrates the sound level detected by your Nucleus 7 or Kanso 2 Sound Processor, and the sound processor status indicator. A tick indicates that your sound processor is working properly.

If you have completed the pairing process, you can swipe down the notification shade and check that the Nucleus Smart App is displaying the battery status of your processor(s). If you do not see the notification, this means the app is not running. You can start it by finding the Nucleus Smart App icon in the app drawer (or on your home screen) and tapping it.

The Nucleus Smart App will only stop running if you force the app to close. You should only close the app for troubleshooting purposes, as the app must be running to utilise features like 'Find My Processor' and 'Hearing Tracker'. To close the app, open Settings, select Apps, find Nucleus Smart in the list and press 'Force stop'.

If you received your Nucleus 7 Sound Processor prior to July 2018, your sound processor firmware will need to be updated before you can use it with an Android device. This simple update can be carried out by your clinician. Contact Cochlear or your hearing health professional for more information.

If you are still experiencing difficulties or have any other questions about the Nucleus Smart App, please contact your local Cochlear office for advice and assistance at cochlear.com/intl/contact/global-offices.
